Mike “Hoagie” Hogan

Mike Hogan 6As the hard hitting drummer for Mongrel, Mike “Hoagie” Hogan has put his sticks to the test for sure. Hogan’s drumming career started with high school marching band and a Irish pipes and drums marching band and later various Massachusetts area bands before joining Mongrel in 2012. Hoagie’s recorded debut with Mongrel was the 2014 release “Evolution” (Unable Records) which spawned the singles/videos for “Snakes”, “Oxygen Mask” and “Over & Over” and received excellent reviews. Mike Hogan 5

Gracing stages from New York to Maine, and press in the states and overseas, Mike Hogan has certainly been making his mark behind the kit since his debut show with Mongrel in 2012 opening for Otep. When asked about being a drummer, Hoagie stated, “I love playing drums, it’s where you can let loose and be free.” This is clear to anyone who has seen him play or talked to him at a show over the years. Given his intense style and schedule, Hoagie looks for sticks that are not only affordable, but durable, well balanced, and that just feel ‘right’.

Band bio:

Mongrel, by definition, is a mixed-breed, and this female fronted band known as “The hardest working band in Boston” (Metal Edge) lives up to its name. Fronted by Jessica Sierra, who has drawn comparisons to great vocalists ranging from Janis to Otep, the band mixes its hard rock, punk, and metal influences to rave reviews. With Evolution, the band members’ diverse styles come together better than ever and the band signed with Unable Records. Evolution was recorded by Jim Foster (POD, Nullset, Sully Erna), mixed by Dave Fortman (Slipknot, Soil, Otep, Evanescence), and mastered by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Pantera, Metallica, Soundgarden), bringing Mongrel‘s songs and sound to their next evolutionary level.

Mongrel has shared stages with metal and punk luminaries as diverse as Danzig w/ Doyle, Lacuna Coil, The Misfits, Godsmack, FEAR, Korn, GWAR, Otep, Sepultura, Halestorm, Shadows Fall, Mindless Self Indulgence, Prong, Vision of Disorder, Sepultura, Butcher Babies, Warrior Soul, Mushroomhead, Hed(pe), American Head Charge, and One-Eyed Doll.

Over the years, Mongrel has earned an impressive collection of endorsements and sponsorships including Marshall Amps, Peavey,

Monster Cable, Seymour Duncan, Dean Markley, Artist Series Guitars, Agile Guitars, In Tune Guitar Picks, Supernatural Cymbals, Cabin Fever Maple Whiskey, and Cocaine energy drinks.

Mongrel had the RockMyMonkey.com album of the year in 2010, was named “Punk Band of the Year” by Pulse Magazine in 2011 & 2014, and one of “25 Artists That Made 2013 Rock” by Rockwired Magazine. They were also number 6 on the CMJ “Most Added” list and hit 43 on the CMJ charts in 2012; in addition, their video for “C & a 1/2” was given an exclusive premiere on RevolverMag.com in 2013.  In 2014 Mongrel released 3 videos from the “Evolution” EP for the tracks “Snakes”, “Oxygen Mask” and “Over & Over”. “Evolution” was met with great reviews in 2014 and was featured on year-end lists from Uber Rock and Rockwired Magazine whom also featured Mongrel and the video for “Oxygen Mask” in their year-end best of 2014 lists.
