I was 13 years old, living in Richfield, OH, and planned on being a zookeeper. Very simply, I witnessed a drum solo and thought that it was easily the coolest thing I could ever possibly learn how to do in my life. A short matter of time after that, I was taking lessons and progressing at a rapid pace. Learning the complexities of this instrument quickly, I started performing live and recording drums at the age 14. Throughout high school, I was performing in school bands, but always had more of an interest in performing live with my own music. Living just south of Cleveland, I was performing in multiple clubs in and around the city with my own musical groups by the time I was 18. During this time, I also started teaching drum lessons to younger students in the Northeast Ohio area referred to me by my own teacher. Within the first 5 years of playing drums, I realized that this feeling I got from playing them was a really important feeling to me. I figured that if I wanted to become a professional musician and continue to experience this feeling, I would have to continue my education at a professional level.
I decided I wanted to go to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I auditioned, got accepted, got a scholarship, and graduated with a degree in Drum Set Performance. During my time at Berklee, I learned 10 times more than I thought I could. I learned not only from incredible teachers, fellow students, and experiences, but also from the not so good sides of music as well. The most important thing I took from school was to develop and have your own sound.
Currently, I am living in Boston, working as a freelance musician. I play in many personal projects and for varied artists throughout the city and beyond. Drums have opened up many doors for me, from playing in my home town of Cleveland, to as far as West Africa, I’m very thankful for all my experiences made by playing drums.
