At age 12, Nate MacMillen’s parents brought home a Remo practice drum kit. From that day on, Nate was hooked! Every day after school, he sat for hours behind the kit teaching himself how to play simple rock beats with the help of early Van Halen and Led Zeppelin records. At a certain point, Nate could no longer teach himself and began taking formal lessons where he learned a variety of styles of drumming.
Upon entering high school, he participated in the New Bedford High School “Whaler” Marching Band, playing just about every piece of marching percussion he could get his hands on. After high school, Nate moved to Boston and toured for one season with the East Coast Jazz Drum & Bugle Corps. In 2009 he joined the death metal band, Scourge. It was here that Nate honed in on his metal chops. In 2015, he was recruited by The Beast Of Nod, an up-and-coming band that labels themselves “Intergalactic Death Metal”. Since then, he has remained very active in the Boston metal scene, recording 2 EP’s and a full-length album due out in 2017. In addition to being a part of the Boston metal scene, Nate also
participates as the percussionist of the Boston Latvian Folk Choir. He recently had the opportunity to serve as the drummer for the 2017 Latvian Song and Dance Festival in Baltimore, MD. It was there that Nate got to perform with a choir of 400+ singers in front of a sold-out crowd at Baltimore’s Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Additionally, Nate also serves as the percussionist for Neighborhood Rocks, a multi-generational choir that is based in Jamaica Plain, MA. Nate was also a battery instructor for the Norwood High School “Mustang” Marching Band from 2015 – 2017.
