With over 15 years of experience, Paul Claro has brought his unique intensity and energy to stages around the world with his band, Brooklyn’s atmospheric punk duo, Cinema Cinema.
Paul quickly developed a natural drumming ability after receiving his first drum set at the young age of 9. That natural ability soon became an obsession that grew into a passion. He soon found himself playing in bands for local variety shows with musicians more than three times his age.
Upon entering High School, he was selected to join the jazz ensemble which was invited to do a 2 week tour of Japan in 2005. He played in various rock, pop, punk and jazz groups before joining Cinema Cinema in 2008.
Since then, he and cousin Ev Gold have played more than 350 shows including multiple US tours supporting Greg Ginn (Black Flag, SST Records) and a 2013 Winter European tour that spanned 5 countries.
With Cinema Cinema, Paul worked with legendary producer Don Zientara (Bad Brains, Fugazi, Minor Threat) on their 2012 release, Manic Children and The Slow Aggression. Earlier this year they recorded a soon to be released record with Grammy winning producer Martin Bisi (Herbie Hancock, Sonic Youth, Swans) and has collaborated with him in live improv performances. The duo also established a live improv collaboration with Grammy winning, jazz/world saxophonist, Matt Darriau (Paradox Trio, The Klezmatics).
Paul will be on tour of North America in summer of 2014 as his band supports the iconic hardcore punk band, Black Flag for a 40+ run of shows.
