Originally started on guitar until the guitar shop went out of businessJ  His brother owned a drum pad and sticks that gained Rod’s attention.  He realized at the age 7 that drumming is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

His journey began playing in concert, jazz and marching bands from elementary through high school.  Since then playing professionally in clubs, studios, concerts and on national TV.

Some of his major influences are John Bonham, Stewart Copeland, Terri  Bozzio and Larry Mullen.

His main focus and approach to playing and writing to his bands songs are to enhance the tune and give it dynamics and energy that song deserves.   He has always been a pocket and groove drummer that makes sure the tempos are played exactly as the song was written.  He has mastered playing to a click or backing track. Rod McCarthy
