My name is Tyler Pridgen, I am 22 years old. I have been playing drums and percussion for 20 years. I started with my endeavor at age 2. My dad was a touring drummer for a gospel group for 11 years. I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to go with him from time to time on tours. I instantly fell in love with that kind of life. My dad gave me his touring drum kit after he retired and I picked up where he left off.
I started playing drums in my school marching band. I served 8 years on the drumline from 5th grade all the way to my 12th grade year. I worked my way up to Captain over my drumline in 4 years. I kept the position of Captain until I graduated. I participated in several honor bands and scored high in the symphonic band division 4 years in a row. I have received 11 medals, 1 trophy, 2 Most Outstanding Percussionist awards, and was presented with the Gavin Phillips Leadership Award.
After my high school years I instructed Leroy High School’s Percussion line in 2014. After my 2015 season I got a job offer to instruct Thomasville High School’s Percussion line Full time. I took the position of Thomasville High School’s Percussion Instructor in 2015. I still instruct the Thomasville High School percussion line to this day.
I find joy in teaching students to better themselves in their music career. I teach my students how to lead others in the correct way and be respectful to others. I believe that is just as important as teaching them music. I have had several of my students go off to college and march in the drumline. All of these students have been granted with scholarships by playing in the Percussion line at their college.
During my high school years I started playing with a few local bands. I have played with: Roots Worship, Refuge, Crying Rocks, and Chosen. I am now the drummer for a touring Christian Contemporary Band called One Step Closer. We have been together for just over 5 years and have played alongside several big name Christian artists. We have played with: Building 429, Casting Crowns, Lauren Daigle, Hawk Nelson, Finding Favor, The Rhett Walker Band, Sanctus Real, Carrollton, and The Afters.
Every time I step on stage and get behind the drums; I find myself in awe of what The Lord has blessed me with. I am blessed to be endorsing several companies besides Rich Sticks such as: Soultone Cymbals, ROC-N-SOC drum thrones, Cymbag cymbal protectors, SKB Cases, and Vratim Drumming Shoes. I take immense pride in drumming! I take just as much pride in my products! I believe that you play with good quality products and you swear by them. If you play with quality equipment you will be more proficient with your playing. For me drumming is more than my hobby, it is my passion!
