Vic Stauffenberg

photo 2 Vic Stauffenberg is a freelance drum set and percussion performer based in Denver, CO. Vic has been drumming since 1994. He has performed and is well versed in rock, funk, jazz, Latin, country, soul, classical, rudimental, and theatrical drumming. His major influences include Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Jordan, Josh Freese, John Bonham, Tony Williams, Jeff Porcaro, Jojo Mayer, and Zigaboo Modeliste.

His initial education came from graduates of the prestigious University of North Texas percussion studio. He received extensive training in concert percussion, marimba, and rudimental marching percussion. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he studied under Dr. Michael Varner, Jeff Ausdemore, and Jim Yakas. Here he began his drum set studies, while at the same time performing with the Denver Blue Knights drum and bugle corps. Once he relocated to Denver, he began his career as a freelance performer in earnest, playing for recording sessions and live shows. At the same time, he maintained an active career as an educator: teaching private students, founding a pipe and drum band for the South Metro Fire District of Denver, and serving as the assistant director for the Denver Citywide Percussion Ensemble and the Head Drumline Instructor for the University of Colorado. photo 1

He currently plays for Ryan Chrys & the Rough Cuts, voted best country band of 2015 by Westword magazine, touring around the country. When he is not on tour, he maintains an active schedule teaching and recording, as well as supporting up-and-coming singer-songwriter Larry Patrick Nix in his backing band, The Killer Gents. Vic has been a Sabian cymbals regional artist since 2000. Vic has performed with Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa), Dave Samuels (Spyro Gyra), Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez (Santana), Gilby Clarke (Guns ‘n’ Roses), members of Big Head Todd and the Monsters and Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, and has shared the stage with Blackberry Smoke, The Marshall Tucker Band, Reverend Payton’s Big Damn Band, Saliva, Fuel, Junior Brown, In The Whale, Reno Divorce, The Delta Sonics, and Dax Riggs.
