Vishnu discovered his love for music at age 10, after chancing upon his dad’s old tapes and CD’s including “Rust In Peace” by Megadeth, “Cowboys From Hell” by Pantera and “IV” by Led Zeppelin. In 2006 at age 14, his parents bought him his first drum kit and the uphill battle had officially begun. At age 16, Vishnu joined his first band; a Chennai based death metal band called Crypted; and a year later joined a progressive metal/fusion band called Trojan Horse. Both bands would go on to gather a large cult following in South India over the years to come.
In 2012-13, Vishnu along with members from Trojan Horse enrolled in the Music Performance Diploma course at Swarnabhoomi Academy Of Music. It is here where his musical knowledge expanded more than he ever imagined it could by studying jazz, world music and Indian classical music with renowned musicians/educators such as Dafnis Prieto, Ofer Ganor, Raphaelle Brochet, Jovol Bell, Prasanna, Ghatam Karthik, Phil Maturano, Rubens de la Corte, Manuel Valera, Karina Colis, Steve Zerlin, Ric Fierabracci and Ed DeGenaro among many others. During his education period, Vishnu would achieve many milestones with his bands including:
(1) Runners up at Wacken Metal Battle finals 2012, opening for Kreator.
(2) 1st place along with Best Drummer award at NxG Rockstar band competition.
(3) Best instrumentalist 2 years in a row at the Stella Maris college cultural day.
(4) 1st place in the prestigious IIT-Saarang pro-show opening for Vildjharta.
In 2015 (after 2 years of rigorous practice and preparation) Vishnu crossed yet another item off his bucket list by joining the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studies Music Performance. In his time, he has studied with some of his all time favorite musicians such as Dave DiCenso, Casey Scheuerell, Paul Stiller, Kenwood Dennard, Manuel Kaufman, Henrique de Almeida, Marko Djordjevic, Jerry Leake, and James Murphy among countless others.
During his time at Berklee, Vishnu has played with many bands and session projects, diversifying his skills and widening his versatility. In June of 2015, Vishnu would go on to join fantasy metal band Merithius full time, who’s skyrocket to fame would be fast, sharp and effective. In a mere one year since their inception, Merithius has played over 25 shows and a tour, headlining a handful of local shows and opening for stellar acts such as Angel Vivaldi, Soilwork, Fear Factory, Apocalyptica, Drewsif Stalin, The Fine Constant, Intronaut, Entheos, Trivium, Sabaton, Kataklysm and Carach Angren. The band is all set to release their debut album, “Welcome To Merithius” on November 19th, and their momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Vishnu is also a full time member of the Jazz/Metal fusion trio Dapper Duck, who formed recently in September 2016. At present, Vishnu continues his journey of knowledge at Berklee while working full time in his two bands.
